Construction Skip Bin Hire

Have a project on the go and need a dependable way to manage the waste? Whether it’s a new build, a renovation, or a full-scale commercial development, waste can quickly take over your worksite.

At Bin Master Skip Bins Wollongong, we make construction waste disposal simple, reliable, and cost-effective with our skip bin hire services for construction and demolition waste.

Our construction skip bins are built to handle the toughest materials, helping builders and tradies across the Illawarra keep their sites clean, compliant, and ready for the next stage of the job.

Built for Heavy-Duty Waste

Our construction skip bins are made to take on everything from demolition debris to renovation offcuts. With sizes ranging from 2m³ to 25m³, we’ve got a skip for every stage of your build from early excavation to final site cleanup.

We accept a wide range of construction materials, including:

  • Bricks, concrete, and rubble
  • Tiles and roof sheeting (non-asbestos)
  • Timber, framing, and pallets
  • Steel, metal, and scrap
  • Gyprock and plasterboard
  • Plastic wrapping and packaging waste

Most construction materials can be recycled, which helps keep costs down and reduces landfill waste. Our team sorts and processes recyclables responsibly to support sustainable waste management across the Illawarra.

What Can’t Go in a Construction Skip

While our bins are built for heavy-duty materials, some waste types can’t be mixed with standard building waste. These items require special handling and disposal under environmental regulations.

Prohibited items include:

  • Dirt, sand, soil, or clay (requires a soil-only bin)
  • Liquids or chemicals
  • Aerosols
  • Gas bottles and fire extinguishers
  • Food waste
  • Tyres and mattresses
  • Fibro or Villaboard (unless certified non-asbestos)
  • Loose insulation
  • Hazardous or suspect hazardous materials

Mixing prohibited materials with construction waste will result in a minimum $200 contamination fee and possible reload costs.

If asbestos is found in a bin, Bin Master reserves the right to return and tip the bin at the customer’s property, or charge an additional fee to cover safe asbestos transport and disposal. For asbestos waste, please contact us about our Asbestos Hazibags.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is a builder’s skip?

Our skip bin hire Wollongong service caters to general household waste, renovation and construction waste, yard and landscaping waste, and business waste. For specific types of waste disposal like asbestos, we offer Hazibags.

  • How much is a standard skip hire?

Yes, for safety and compliance with skip bin hire regulations, hazardous materials including liquids, chemicals, tyres (can be disposed of at an additional cost), gas bottles, and friable asbestos are prohibited. Non-friable asbestos can be disposed of in our Hazibags.

  • Is it illegal to use someone else’s skip bin?

There’s no national law against it, but putting rubbish in someone else’s skip without permission can be considered trespassing or illegal dumping if the bin is on private property. It’s always best to book your own skip or ask the owner before disposing of any waste.

  • What is the most common waste used in construction?

Common construction waste materials include concrete, bricks, timber, steel, plasterboard, and tiles. These waste materials can often be recycled, which helps reduce landfill waste and lower disposal costs.

  • What size skip bin do I need for construction waste?

For small home renovations, a 2m³ or 6m³ bin is usually enough. For larger builds or commercial sites, we recommend 8m³ to 25m³ hook bins. If you’re unsure, it’s often better to choose a slightly larger bin to avoid needing a second one.

  • Can I mix different types of construction waste in one bin?

Yes, most building materials such as concrete, steel, and timber can go in the same bin. However, soil, sand, or clay must go in a separate bin, and asbestos requires a specialised Hazibag.

If you’re referring to green waste or general household rubbish, these fall under different waste management categories and will need their own skip bin type. Our team can help you choose the right bin for your specific waste type to keep disposal simple and compliant.

  • What items are not allowed in a construction skip?

Prohibited items include soil, chemicals, gas bottles, aerosols, food waste, insulation, tyres, mattresses, and any asbestos or hazardous materials. Mixing these with general construction waste can lead to contamination fees.

  • How long can I keep a skip bin?

Our standard hire period is 7 days, including weekends. You can extend your hire by contacting our office at least 24 hours before pickup. Extended hire may incur an additional fee.

  • How do I book a construction skip bin?

Booking is easy. You can call our team on 02 4256 2008 or book online. We’ll confirm the right bin size, waste type, and delivery time. Same-day delivery is often available across Wollongong and the Illawarra.

  • What happens to my construction waste after collection?

We transport all construction and demolition waste to a licensed recycling facility and approved disposal sites. Recyclable materials such as concrete, steel, and timber are separated and processed to reduce landfill waste and support sustainable waste management practices.

  • Can I overload my skip bin?

No. Skip bins must not be filled above the rim for safety reasons. Overloaded bins can’t be transported legally and may require waste removal before collection. This applies to all waste types, including household items, green waste, construction debris, and other materials. Keeping your skip within the fill line helps your project run smoothly and avoids delays or extra charges during pickup.

  • Does site access affect skip bin pricing?

Yes, access can influence the delivery process and total hire cost. Narrow driveways, slopes, or restricted areas may require smaller bins or additional time for safe placement. Our team can help assess the best option for your site.

  • Do I need a council permit to place a skip bin on public property?

Yes. If your skip bin needs to be placed on a public road, nature strip, or footpath, you may require a permit from your local council. Permit rules vary by area, so it’s best to check before booking. We can advise whether a permit applies for your location in Wollongong or surrounding suburbs.

  • How does using a skip bin improve construction site safety?

A skip bin keeps waste in one designated area, reducing clutter and tripping hazards on-site. It also limits dust, debris, and scattered materials, helping you maintain a safer, more organised work environment for everyone on the job.

  • What’s the difference between marrel skips and hook lift bins?

Marrel skips are the standard bins with higher sides and a smaller footprint, suitable for most general construction jobs. Hook lift bins are larger and lower, ideal for major builds or demolition sites that generate high volumes of light waste. We offer both options depending on your project scale and site access.

  • What factors affect the cost of hiring a skip bin?

At Bin Master Skip Bins, prices are based on the type of material going into the bin, the size you choose, and how long you keep it. Heavy materials like concrete, bricks, or mixed building waste are charged differently to lighter loads because disposal and recycling fees vary by weight. Our standard hire runs for seven days, and longer rentals or overweight bins may incur additional charges. We always quote upfront, so you’ll know the total cost before delivery.
