Skip Bin Hire Wollongong FAQs
Quick Answers
What waste types do you offer pricing for?
We price skips based on what you’re putting in the bin. The main categories are: general household (light), builders/renovation, concrete & masonry only, green waste (no dirt), dirt & soil (clean fill), and asbestos (hazibags). If you’re unsure, call, and we’ll guide you.
Can I mix waste types in the same skip?
Often yes — and your price is based on the categories your load falls into. The key is you can’t mix incompatible loads (for example, soil mixed with general waste, or concrete mixed with timber/green waste). If your load is a mix, call first, and we’ll tell you which category applies.
What counts as general household waste (light)?
Typical household clean-ups and moving clean-outs: furniture, clothing and soft furnishings, books and paper, household items, packaging and loose general rubbish. It’s not for masonry-only loads, soil, hazardous items, or chemicals/liquids.
What is builder’s/renovation waste?
Waste from fit-outs and small building projects (rules apply): timber offcuts, gyprock/plasterboard, tiles, mixed renovation debris and general site clean-ups. Pricing depends on what’s included, so it’s worth a quick call if your load is mixed.
What goes in a concrete & masonry only skip?
Concrete, bricks, tiles, roof tiles, pavers and similar masonry materials only. No timber, no green waste, no soil, and no general household waste in the same bin.
What counts as green waste (no dirt)?
Garden waste only: branches, lawn clippings, leaves, palm fronds, shrubs and untreated timber. No dirt/soil, no rocks, no treated timber, and no general household rubbish.
Can I put dirt/soil in a skip?
Yes, but soil must be in its own bin and can’t be mixed with other materials. We generally want it to be clean fill / natural material only. If you’re unsure what your material is (clay, fill, mixed spoil), call first so we can confirm.
Can Bin Master help with asbestos disposal?
Yes. We supply specialised 3m³ hazibags for non-friable asbestos waste. We can also collect the hazibag and transport it to a specialised licensed landfill that accepts asbestos waste.
Do I need to use a hazibag for asbestos?
Yes. Any materials containing asbestos must be placed in special hazibags. Do not put asbestos in a standard skip bin.
Do you remove asbestos for me?
No. Both friable and non-friable asbestos require a licensed professional to be removed. Bin Master supplies the hazibags and provides transport services, but we are not licensed to carry out the removal. You will need to arrange this separately.
What happens if asbestos is found in a standard skip bin?
Asbestos must not be placed in a standard skip bin. If asbestos is found in any skip bin, we reserve the right to return and tip the bin back at the customer's house, or a fee will be charged to cover the safe transport and disposal of the asbestos.
How high can I fill the skip?
Bins must not be filled above the rim/level load line. Overfilled bins can’t be legally transported. If the waste sits above the rim, you may need to remove excess waste or book an additional bin.
What is the standard hire period?
Standard hire is 7 days (extra days available). If you need a longer hire, call us before collection day so we can arrange it.
Do you recycle the waste?
Yes — where possible, loads are sorted so recyclable materials are recovered and landfill is minimised. Keeping waste types clean (for example, masonry-only, green waste only, clean fill) helps maximise recycling outcomes.
What size skip do I need for common projects?
Bathroom renovation: most commonly 4m³ (tiles, vanity/cabinetry, shower screen, packaging).
Kitchen renovation: commonly 4m³ or 5m³ (cabinetry, benchtops, flooring, tiles, packaging).
Moving house clean-up: 4m³–6m³ for furniture/white goods/general junk; 3m³ for a smaller tidy-up.
Deceased estate: often 20m³+ total volume (commonly multiple bins or a large site bin, depending on access and waste type).
Events: 4 m³ for backyard events; larger events may need 12 m³ bins (or multiple bins), depending on the number of attendees and waste stream.
How do I estimate skip size for excavation or demolition waste?
For soil: volume = length × width × depth, then multiply by 1.3 to allow for air gaps/packing.
For brickwork/concrete: volume = length × width × depth, then multiply by 1.5 to allow for breakage/voids.
Tip: heavy material adds weight quickly — if you’re unsure, call us so we can match the bin size to truck lifting limits and weight rules.
Do heavy materials have weight limits?
Yes. Weight limits apply by bin size, and overweight charges may apply. As a guide, concrete and soil can be extremely heavy (often around 1–1.25 tonnes per cubic metre). If you’re doing concrete/soil, call first so we can confirm the best bin option.
Any tips to fit more in without overfilling?
Break down bulky items, flatten cardboard, load heavier items first, and fill gaps with smaller debris. Aim for a level top — no “peaks” above the rim.
